About US
We Promote Conservation, Sustainable use of Environment and Community Empowerment in Northern Kenya.
At Nareto Conservancy, we believe that people and nature can thrive together. Founded with a vision to protect biodiversity while uplifting local communities, we work at the intersection of conservation and empowerment. Our name, Nareto, reflects unity and shared purpose — a reminder that true sustainability is only possible when communities and ecosystems are equally valued.
We are dedicated to:
Conservation: Protecting wildlife, restoring habitats, and safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
Community Empowerment: Providing local communities with opportunities, skills, and sustainable livelihood initiatives that reduce dependency on fragile ecosystems.
Collective Action: Building strong partnerships with individuals, organizations, and governments who share our commitment to a greener, fairer future.
Through education, advocacy, and hands-on conservation projects, Nareto is creating a model where conservation is not a burden, but a shared opportunity. Every tree planted, every habitat protected, and every life improved brings us closer to a world where people and nature coexist in harmony.
Together, we connect. Together, we conserve. Together, we collect hope for tomorrow.

OUR MISSION

Our Approaches
We Protect Wildlife & Habitats
Conservation begins with protecting the very foundation of life—our wildlife and the habitats they depend on. Nareto Conservancy works to reduce threats such as poaching, habitat destruction, and unsustainable land use through community engagements, awareness campaigns, and local stewardship. By safeguarding these natural resources, we secure a healthy environment not just for wildlife, but also for the people who rely on them for water, grazing, and cultural identity.
We Cultivate Stewardship & Awareness
True conservation can only succeed when communities understand their role as custodians of nature. We invest in building conservation awareness through schools, youth programs, cultural dialogues, and eco-clubs. By connecting traditional knowledge with modern conservation practices, we nurture a new generation of environmental stewards who will carry forward the responsibility of protecting our shared heritage.
We Empower Community-Led Projects
We believe people are central to conservation. That is why our initiatives are designed and implemented with the full participation of local communities. From habitat restoration and water resource management to innovative livelihood projects, our work strengthens resilience and ensures that conservation benefits are shared equitably. By placing communities at the heart of decision-making, we create ownership, trust, and sustainability.
We Collaborate Across Sectors
No single actor can achieve conservation alone. We therefore seek partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, private enterprises, and other community organizations. By pooling expertise, resources, and knowledge, we multiply our impact and create integrated solutions to the environmental and social challenges facing our landscapes. Collaboration also helps us align local actions with national and global conservation goals.
We Strengthen Sustainable Livelihoods
Conservation must go hand in hand with improved well-being for local people. We support households in adopting sustainable income-generating activities that reduce dependency on fragile ecosystems. This includes climate-smart agriculture, beekeeping, eco-enterprises, and the development of nature-based tourism. By linking conservation with economic opportunity, we demonstrate that protecting nature can also improve quality of life, reduce poverty, and secure a better future for all.
We Build Support Through Membership & Advocacy
Our strength lies in the collective voice and action of our members, supporters, and partners. We cultivate a strong base of community advocates, volunteers, and allies who champion conservation both locally and beyond. Through membership programs, campaigns, and networking, we raise awareness, mobilize resources, and amplify the message that conservation is a shared responsibility. Together, we form a movement committed to protecting our land, wildlife, and culture for generations to come.
